Ages 6 to 11 are when dance stops being play and starts being a skill, and the studio you choose matters more than it did at 3. At The Facility, school-age dancers get leveled classes in tight age bands — 7 to 9, 10 to 12, not one giant room of 6-to-12-year-olds — in ballet, hip hop, jazz, tap, pom, ballroom, and tumbling. Teachers know every dancer's name, corrections sound like coaching, and nobody yells.
The rooms are the other reason families drive here from Glendale, Arrowhead, Sun City, and Surprise: four all-black box studios with sprung floors that protect growing joints and a single line of teal light that takes away every distraction. Our faculty includes a Hip Hop Director with NBA-team and convention credits, a Company Director who runs the competitive program without a raised voice, and recreational teachers hired for warmth.
First class free in any style, no card required. Enroll within 24 hours and the $35 registration fee is waived. Tuition is published to the dollar on our pricing page: $69 a month for one 45-minute class, $80 for one hour, $129 for two.
Which style for a 6-to-11-year-old
Ballet builds the foundation for everything else, and we will say so at the trial. Hip hop is the most-requested first class in this age group, and ours is directed by a teacher with two decades of Arizona hip hop education. Jazz is the showcase-number style; tap turns feet into instruments; pom is what school dance teams audition for; ballroom, for ages 6 to 10, teaches partnering and poise nothing else does. Hip Hop Tumble adds cartwheels and walkovers for the kid who never stops moving.
Most families at this age settle on two weekly classes: one technique class (ballet) and one the dancer chooses. Because tuition is based on total weekly hours, the second costs far less than the first, and dancers who stack two classes on one evening make the drive once.

What class looks like at this age
A real warm-up (this is when injury prevention starts to matter), technique across the floor, and choreography that builds over weeks toward the Winter Showcase, where every class performs on a real stage with professional production. Classes are capped so teachers can correct individually. Placement is by age and experience together: a beginning 10-year-old goes in a room of beginners her own age, never in a preschool class and never in a room of seasoned pre-teens.
Logistics for school-age families
Weekday recreational classes start at 4:30 pm, which gives a school pickup a comfortable margin. Dancers arrive 5 to 10 minutes early for warm-up, wear style-appropriate clothes (details on each style page), and are released inside the building. Absences are reported from your family portal, and where a comparable class has room we help arrange a makeup.
Our invite-only competition company draws from these classes as teachers see readiness — and recreational-forever is a real path, with the same teachers and the same stage. We are at 21461 N 78th Ave, Suite 185 in north Peoria, just off the Loop 101 at Deer Valley with free parking at the door. Hours are Monday through Friday 10:00 am to 9:30 pm and Saturday 9:00 am to 2:00 pm; we are closed Sundays.
Questions parents ask
My 9-year-old has never danced. Is it too late?
Not remotely. We place by age and experience together, so a beginning 9-year-old lands in a beginner room of kids her own age. Many of our strongest dancers started at 8, 9, or 10.
How many classes a week should a kid take?
One is plenty to start. Two — ballet plus a style they love — is the most common pattern by mid-season, and the second class costs much less per hour than the first.
Which style should we start with?
Ballet for the foundation, hip hop or jazz for the fun. The first class in any style is free, so try two and let your dancer decide.
Does every kid perform?
Every class performs at the Winter Showcase on a real stage. It is strongly encouraged and not mandatory; tell us early if your dancer will sit it out.
How does the competition team work?
It is invite-only and always optional. Teachers invite dancers from recreational classes as they see readiness. Read the competition team page for expectations and commitment.
How much are kids dance classes?
