Dance Classes

Pom dance classes in Peoria, AZ.

Sharp, synchronized, and loud with energy. Pom is the style every school dance team is built on.

Pom is the dance-team style: crisp arm motions, tight formations, jumps, kicks, and turns performed in perfect unison, usually with pom-poms in hand. It is what middle-school and high-school dance teams, spirit squads, and college teams perform at games and competitions, and it is one of the few styles where synchronization matters more than solo flair. Our Intro to Pom class is built for dancers around ages 7 to 10 who want to start early.

The class is taught by Makenna Madden, an elite instructor who traveled the world performing before bringing that stage experience to children. Pom is a performer's style — a good pom dancer sells a routine to the back row of a stadium — and having a teacher who has actually done that changes how kids attack it.

First class free, no card required. Enroll within 24 hours and the $35 registration fee is waived. Tuition is public: $69 a month for one 45-minute class, $80 for one hour.

What Intro to Pom teaches

Arms first. Pom lives or dies on clean, sharp arm positions — T, broken T, high V, low V, touchdown — hit exactly on the count and held without a wobble. Dancers drill them in a mirror until the whole line looks like one person. Then the lower body: jazz-based turns, pom jumps (toe touch, herkie, pike), high kicks, and the traveling steps that keep formations moving.

Every class ends with a short routine that changes formations, because learning to hit a spot on the floor while counting is the skill that separates dancers who make a team from dancers who almost do. Pom dancers perform at the Winter Showcase like every other class.

What to wear to pom

Fitted athletic top, shorts or leggings, clean white indoor sneakers, and hair in a high pony. For the free trial, any athletic clothes and clean sneakers are perfect.

Pom, jazz, and the road to a team

Most school dance-team auditions score jazz technique and pom technique separately, so a dancer who takes both here is covered on both halves of the sheet. Because tuition is based on weekly hours, pom plus jazz costs $129 a month — not double. Dancers who want to compete can be invited to our company, which is invite-only and never required.

We are in north Peoria at 78th Ave and Deer Valley, just off the Loop 101 — minutes from Arrowhead and a short drive from Glendale, Sun City, and Surprise. Studio hours are Monday through Friday 10:00 am to 9:30 pm and Saturday 9:00 am to 2:00 pm; we are closed Sundays.

Questions parents ask

What is pom, exactly?

The dance-team style: sharp arm motions, jumps, kicks, turns, and formation changes performed in unison, usually with pom-poms. It is what school dance teams and spirit squads perform at games and competitions.

What age is Intro to Pom for?

Roughly ages 7 to 10. Younger dancers build the same sharpness in jazz first; older dancers with jazz training can usually join directly — ask at the free trial.

Does my dancer need cheer experience?

No. Pom is a dance style, not cheer — no stunting, no tumbling required. Any dancer with energy and a willingness to drill arms will thrive.

Will this help my child make the school dance team?

That is the point of the class. Teams audition on exactly these skills — clean arms, jumps, kicks, and the ability to hold a formation while counting. Pairing pom with jazz covers both halves of most audition score sheets.

How much does pom cost?

$69 a month for one 45-minute class, $80 for one hour, $129 for two weekly hours in any mix of styles. Registration is $35 and waived within 24 hours of the free trial.
