Dance Classes

Acro and tumbling classes in Peoria, AZ.

Cartwheels, bridges, walkovers, and the strength to earn them — taught one clean progression at a time.

Acro is acrobatics taught for dancers: the flexibility, balance, and floor skills — rolls, cartwheels, bridges, walkovers, and eventually handsprings and aerials — that show up in competition routines, cheer, and every kid's backyard. At The Facility, tumbling for the youngest dancers is folded into Hip Hop Tumble classes from age 4, where half the hour is beginner hip hop and half is floor skills, because at that age the two build the same coordination.

Everything happens on sprung floors, which absorb the repetitive impact of tumbling far better than a gym mat on concrete. Skills are taught in progressions — a forward roll before a dive roll, a strong bridge before a walkover, a handstand held before a handspring attempted — and nobody is thrown a skill they have not built the strength for.

First class free, no card required. Enroll within 24 hours and we waive the $35 registration fee. Tuition is public: $69 a month for one 45-minute class, $80 for one hour.

What we teach, and in what order

Every class starts with conditioning, because acro without strength is how kids get hurt: hollow holds, bridges, handstand walk-ups against the wall, wrist and shoulder prep. Then skills, spotted by the teacher and repeated until they are clean: forward and backward rolls, cartwheels on both sides, bridge kick-overs, then front and back walkovers. For older or more experienced dancers, the progression continues into round-offs, handsprings, and aerials, always with spotting first.

Class ends with dance — the acro is only useful if it can go into choreography. Dancers learn to enter and exit a skill on the music, which is the difference between a tumbler and an acro dancer.

What to wear to acro

Leotard or fitted athletic clothes with no loose shirts, zippers, or buttons; bare feet; hair pulled back tight; no jewelry at all. The rules are stricter than other styles because a spotter's hands and a dancer's skin should not meet a zipper mid-walkover. For the free trial, leggings and a fitted tee are perfect.

Acro pairs with hip hop and jazz

Our tumble classes already combine acro with hip hop, and older acro dancers usually pair it with jazz or a competition discipline. Because monthly tuition is based on total weekly hours, the second class is much cheaper than the first — two weekly hours in any mix of styles is $129.

Occasionally we bring in guest coaches for one-day skills clinics; those are posted on our events page. We are in north Peoria at 78th Ave and Deer Valley, minutes from Arrowhead and close to Glendale, Sun City, and Surprise, open Monday through Friday 10:00 am to 9:30 pm and Saturday 9:00 am to 2:00 pm; we are closed Sundays.

Questions parents ask

What age can my child start tumbling?

Hip Hop Tumble starts at age 4. Skills at that age are rolls, cartwheels, and bridges taught through games; walkovers and beyond come as strength and age allow.

Is acro safe for kids?

Taught progressively, on sprung floors, with a teacher spotting, yes. We do not let a dancer attempt a skill until the strength and the previous skill are solid — that rule is not negotiable, and it is why our tumblers progress steadily instead of in scary leaps.

Is this the same as gymnastics?

No. Acro is acrobatics for dancers: floor skills that go into choreography, no apparatus, and a strong emphasis on flexibility, balance, and musicality. Gymnasts who want to dance and dancers who want floor skills both fit well.

What should my child wear?

A leotard or fitted athletic clothes with no zippers, buttons, or loose shirts, bare feet, hair tied back, no jewelry.

How much does tumbling cost?

$69 a month for one 45-minute class, $80 for one hour, $129 for two weekly hours. The full table is on the pricing page; registration is $35 and waived within 24 hours of the free trial.

Do you run tumbling clinics?

Sometimes — guest-coach skills clinics are announced on our events page and to our newsletter list first. Join the list on our summer camps page to hear about them.
